Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data we collect on stereosoniclabs.com, how we use it, and how we protect it.
Who is responsible?
Stereosonic Labs AS, org. no. 938 723 133, Smuget 1, 1383 Asker, Norway, is the data controller for this website.
What does this policy cover?
This policy applies to the website stereosoniclabs.com, to buying a Stereosonic MIX licence there, and to the data Stereosonic MIX sends us. It does not cover websites we link to.
What data do we collect?
When you sign up to download Stereosonic MIX, we collect your first name and email address. We use them to send you the download link and updates about MIX. If you tick the newsletter box, we also send you our newsletter, at most once a month. When you use the support, feedback, or beta programme form, we collect your name, email address, what you write, and, depending on the form, the app version or the operating systems you can test on. We use them to answer your request. Apart from that, the website only shows contact information. We use anonymous statistics and do not track visitors.
You can also sign up for the newsletter alone, on our roadmap page or in Stereosonic MIX. Either way, we get your first name and email address, and we use them to send you the newsletter, at most once a month.
If you join a beta waiting list in Stereosonic MIX and give us your email address, we use it to send you emails about that beta.
When you buy a Stereosonic MIX licence, Link, the Stripe payment service, handles the payment. We never see your card details. Link gives us your name, email address, country, and what you paid. We use them to issue your licence, send you the key, and help you with your licence later.
What does Stereosonic MIX send us?
When you use MIX with a licence, the app checks in with our licence server when it starts and every hour while it is running, never more than once in the same hour. It sends four things:
- your licence ID
- a hashed identifier for your Mac
- the version of MIX you run
- whether you have signed up for the newsletter on this Mac
We use them to see how many Macs a licence is used on, and to avoid asking you to sign up for a newsletter you already get. The Mac identifier is a one-way hash, but it is still personal data: it is tied to your licence, and so to your name and email address. MIX never sends us anything about your mixes, your files, or how you use the app.
The answer to a check-in can carry a short message from us, which MIX shows on its start screen, and it says whether the email address on your licence is on our newsletter list. We choose who gets a message by licence, for example everybody in one beta group. We do not record who has read or closed one.
If you enter an activation code in the MIX beta, the app sends the code and a hashed identifier for your Mac. In return, you receive a beta ID. It works like a licence ID, but has no name or email address attached, so we cannot tell who you are from it. From then on, the beta checks in as often as a licence does.
When it starts, and once a day while it is running, the MIX beta also asks our licence server whether the beta is still open to your licence or beta ID. That request contains the ID and the version of MIX.
You can use the same beta ID on up to three Macs by entering it on each. We can see how many Macs a beta ID is used on, as we can for a licence.
If a beta group is full, you can join its waiting list. That stores your beta ID. You can add an email address if you want us to tell you when there is a place. It is optional. We keep it with your beta ID and use it only for emails about that beta: that you have a place, that the beta is ending, and a thank you when it is over. It does not sign you up for the newsletter.
Every time MIX starts, it also checks for updates by fetching a small file from our download server. Without a licence or a beta ID, it also asks whether we have a message for everybody, as often as a licence checks in. Neither request contains anything about you, your Mac or your licence. Like any request on the internet, each reveals your IP address to the server.
Help centre search
The search in our help centre runs in your browser. What you type there is not sent to us.
We can switch on AI search to find better answers. When it is on, the help centre says so under the search box. What you type is then also sent, through a server function at Netlify, to an AI service that picks the most relevant articles. The request comes from our server, so the service doesn’t get your IP address. We don’t store or log the searches, and we don’t tie them to you. Don’t type personal details into the search. We rely on our legitimate interest in helping you find answers. When AI search is on, this section names the service we use.
Videos in the help centre can come from YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you click play. When you do, YouTube receives your IP address and may set cookies, under Google’s privacy policy.
Cookies
We use Plausible Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. No other tracking takes place on this website.
Legal basis
We process your first name and email address based on your consent when you sign up to download MIX. The newsletter has its own consent: the tick box on the download form, the newsletter form on the roadmap page, or signing up for the newsletter in the app. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing from our emails or by contacting us. If you email us or use the support, feedback, or beta programme form, we only use the information you provide to reply to you.
When you buy a licence, we process your name, email address, and country to deliver the licence you paid for. Buying a licence does not sign you up for our emails about MIX.
We process the check-ins from MIX, and the beta’s question about whether it is still open, based on our legitimate interest in preventing misuse of licences and in running a beta with a limited number of places. Showing you a message in the app rests on the same interest in reaching the people who use it. You have the right to object to this processing. Contact us if you do.
We process the email address you give us on a beta waiting list based on your consent. Contact us to withdraw it, and we delete the address. Your place on the list or in the beta is not affected.
How long do we keep it?
We delete the check-ins from a Mac when we haven’t heard from it in 12 months. We keep the IP address a check-in came from for at most 30 days. The check-ins are stored with your licence, so a request for access or deletion covers them along with the rest of your licence details.
A beta ID and its check-ins are kept the same way. An email address from a waiting list is kept with the beta ID and deleted with it, or sooner if you ask us.
Sharing of data
We use an email delivery service to send our emails: the download link, updates about MIX, the newsletter, the email about a place in a beta, and your licence key. The service processes your first name and email address on our behalf, as our data processor, and may not use them for anything else. Ask us if you want to know which service we use at the moment.
Your licence, your customer details, the licence check-ins from MIX, and beta IDs and waiting lists are stored in our own system. Support requests, feedback, and beta programme applications go there too. Nothing is stored with a third party beyond what these services need to do their job.
Link is the merchant of record when you buy a licence. It processes your payment under its own privacy policy. We do not share personal data with anyone else unless it is necessary to handle your request.
Security
The website is a static site without its own database. When you sign up on the website or in the app, your first name and email address are sent over an encrypted connection, through a server function at our hosting provider, Netlify, to our email delivery service.
We don’t store your licence key in readable form. The only exception is an encrypted copy that lets the thank-you page show the key and lets us resend the email. That copy is deleted after 24 hours, or sooner if the purchase is refunded.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for access to, correction of, and deletion of the personal data we hold about you. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time. You can also make a complaint to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
Changes
We may update this policy when needed. Last updated: 22 October 2026.
